Reflecting On 2019

2019 was a very eventful year for me. At the beginning of this year, I decided that the theme for my year was "being brave". Interestingly, I did not know what experiences I will face that would make me have to choose to be brave. With all the ups and downs of the year, I am very grateful for another amazing year where I had the opportunity to work towards my goals.

In this blog post, I will reflect on my highlights and lowlights in 2019, the lessons I learned, and some questions to help you prepare for 2020.

MC's Year in Review
Theme:
2019 was a year of being brave and pushing myself to do things I was afraid of.

Summary:
My year in numbers

  • Wrote about 50 blog posts

  • Published over 40 videos

  • Had 2 roles at work

  • Hosted 10 Mastermind sessions with my community of women

  • Had over 40 Coaching sessions

  • Sent 12 Newsletters

  • Mentored 3 Women

  • Spoke at 2 events

  • Had many opportunities to fight for what I want

The Highlights

  1. Searching and finding a perfect role at work:  Earlier this year I realized that the role I was in would not let me use all my skills and grow my career. So, I decided to make a significant change. I prioritized building my network and found a role where I have great responsibility and opportunities to grow.

  2. Living out my passion: continuing what I started last year, this year I continued contributing to causes I'm passionate about I spoke at events to students, hosted Mastermind sessions, wrote more blog posts

  3. Starting my YouTube channel: at this time last year, my YouTube channel was a dream. I knew that I wanted to expand my platforms, but I was worried about not being able to do everything needed to run my own channel. In a matter of 3 months, I planned, shot my first videos, and launched my channel in March.

  4. Growing my finances through an investment in property: I knew I wanted to grow my finances in new ways at the start of the year. And this year I had the opportunity to buy property for the first time. This was by far the biggest investment I have made in my life.

  5. Mentoring Women: With everything I was going through this year, having the opportunity to mentor women gave me a fresh perspective. There is something powerful about giving back and helping others. In the end, they helped me grow too.

The Lowlights

  1. Experiencing poor health: sadly, with all the stress I experienced this year, it affected my body. Being in pain for over six months was not part of my plan. It took me a lot time to get back to being myself.

  2. Dealing with disappointment at work: After about three months into my role, I knew that it was not a fit for me. Six months in my new role, I decided to start looking for a new position. I had to restart my job search, build my network and find a new role within months.

  3. Feeling overwhelmed by everything happening in my life: especially when unexpected things happened, I felt under a lot of pressure. I had the constant feeling of being behind and not being about to do what I enjoy. For someone like me who likes to be on top of everything, this was hard.

Preparing for 2020
As you wrap up 2019 and kick-off planning for 2020, here are some questions you can ask yourself:

  1. How did you do on your 2019 goals?

  2. What were your highlights and lowlights in 2019?

  3. What are your goals for 2020?

  4. Who is in your support community? Mentors, sponsors or your tribe

  5. How are you going to celebrate your accomplishments?

Special Note
I would like to wrap up this year with a huge thank you to all of you who have read my blog posts, watched my videos, commented, shared your stories, and encouraged me on this Journey. If you had asked me when I first started in Jan 2018, where I would be in two years, I could never have told you I'll be where I am today.
